SONG//AUDIENCE RESEARCH

THE BEGINNING OF OUR PRODUCTION; MAKING AN INDIE MUSIC VIDEO

Having researched our genre and decided what elements we needed to include in our song and video we looked for unsigned artists. When searching for an unsigned artist for our production task Naomi came across Talk To Frank by High Tyde and well all loved it. We liked that the beat has an electronic element to it and a darker more moody tone, it opened up the options of what we could create far more than a conventional acoustic indie song and we were thrilled with all the things we could try out with this. Following this, Amy emailed the contact address we found on the band's website to ask for permission to use the song which we were quickly granted!

Following this we decided we should conduct a focus group before planning out initial ideas. For the focus group we selected members of our peer group (16-17)  as they would be a main part of the target audience, the results of this can be seen in the video below. We then sat down as a group and min mapped the initial ideas we had about what our video should include. the general consensus was that we wanted to have a party theme and use a setting with low-key lighting and experiment with different kinds of lighting and fireworks. we also thought it would be good to include various settings, such as outdoors at night and a bonfire to coincide with our party theme. The type of music video we plan to create is performance and conceptual as this is conventional of the indie genre, we also felt it would be good to include speed manipulation.

QUESTIONNAIRES

My group members formulated a questionnaire to see what our audience expected from music videos of the indie genre so we could see what we should include and exclude from out music video. The survey was handed out to members of different ages and genres as music generally targets a wider audience than say a film or video game. The questions included inquiries about the audience member themselves and how they consume the media we wish to create. Naomi then analysed the results and this is what we found.
