HOW DID YOU USE NEW MEDIA TECHNOLOGIES IN THE RESEARCH, PLANNING, CONSTRUCTION AND EVALUATION STAGES OF YOUR PORTFOLIO?
Research and planning
During the process of our media portfolio we used many different technologies to allow ourselves to make the most professional media products possible. Use of technology and the internet is much easier for us than it would have been for others as we live in the ages of web 2.0 and due to advances in social media and digital technologies everyone is a media practitioner so we came equip with some skills already before starting this project. For example all three of us were very familiar with Facebook which we used during the research and planning phase to orchestrate when and where we would meet to film and who would be in the cast. We also used it to conduct focus groups using Free Online Surveys to create polls and gain data to tell us what we needed to show in our music video. To further understand what we needed to show in our music video we analysed music videos that found on youtube to better understand the use of mise-en-scene, camera work and editing in our genre. For this we used youtube which we are all very familiar with but we also used Giphy and online gif maker where you paste the youtube link and it allows you to choose a section of the video to make into a gif. These were extremely helpful and effective in creating a beautiful and professional looking music video analysis on our websites. This brings me to talk about Wix which is the free online software we use to make our portfolios, having used this last year for my AS coursework I was extremely familiar with this and it allowed me to create and even better and more professional site than I made last year. Also during our research and planning we used youtube to upload our storyboard and animatic, we edited this on Sony Vegas pro 11 which again we used last year but I had had very limited exposure to it as I mostly conducted filming last year. During research and planning I was only doing basic editing but to help me with this and to improve my skills I looked up tutorial videos and youtube and also asked my more experienced class mates to help me out.

CONSTRUCTION
We used many other softwares and hardwares during the construction of our product including our iPhones and my cannon DSLR camera. we used iPhones to film focus groups and blog footage as it was easier to airdrop the video files onto my MacBook air or Naomi’s iPad pro to edit them in iMovie. iMovie is much simpler to use than Sony Vegas Pro 11 which was especially helpful to churn out quick simple videos that just needed cutting, graphics and sound. Having all owned apple products for a really long time we were incredibly proficient in using these items however there were a few things we didn’t know so again we looked at online and youtube tutorials to show us how to edit our videos in a way that was clean, seamless and professional. For example I looked at iMovie tutorials on how to properly export my videos in a way to play on something other than my mac and also how to white balance my footage. During the more serious construction of our music video we used my cannon DSLR with a standard lens. Since this is my camera I knew how to use it pretty well however due to our project being more demanding than what im used to there were a lot of new things I learnt. for example I learnt how to white balance, how to properly use autofocus and change back into manual focus, we tried out some long exposure photography and also I had to play with the iso and exposure settings a lot due to shooting in the dark. The only draw back of my camera is that the battery life isn't very good so I constantly had to have my battery charger with me. We didn’t use microphones during shooting at all because we didn’t have any diegetic sounds in our video. Our use of Sony Vegas Pro 11 when editing this compared to during our initial research was much more in-depth and we had to learn a more new skills to keep up with the demand of our artistic vision. we looked at tutorials on how to layer footage and superimpose them on top of one another as well as how to edit the colour and speed of shots which was at first quite difficult as the processes and techniques were new however we feel confident in our abilities now. During construction we also made our print media ancillary texts and logos using Corel Photo Paint, 1001 fonts, Krita and my Wacom Bamboo graphics tablet. Personally, not having any experience with Corel Photo Paint initially I really struggled with the software as I have used photoshop up until now however with the help of audio tutorials on soundcloud and video tutorials on youtube I learnt how to fade imaged into colours, increase the contrast and saturation of an image and how to superimpose text and imaged onto the canvas. 1001 fonts was really helpful during this as it allowed us to create transparent png files to put into our adverts and digipaks. Krita is a free open-source digital art software that have on my mac and to get the handwritten effect on our digipak I imported our final digipak as a file layer and wrote directly onto it using my Wacom tablet, despite having used a tablet for a very long time writing on it was a new experience as was quite difficult however it allowed us to have a really genuine feel of a boys messy handwriting on the album. Lastly, during construction we also used a lighting rig that was available in the drama studio we were filming in, we had additional help with operating them however we all learned how to change the lights to have different washes and change the position and intensity of the lights which was a crucial skill as our videos concept was based heavily around lighting.

EVAluation & conclusion
Finally new technologies were also used during the evaluation of my media portfolio. At this point in the project I began using more and more features of Wix and I became very familiar with using power points and slideshows on Wix rather than using Keynote on my MacBook. We also used airdrop between apple devices a lot during this process as it was the easiest way to transfer files between all three of us so we could independently edit using iMovie and upload the footage to youtube.
In conclusion, we used a wealth of new media products and opportunities open to us d=through our sixthform and prevalence of technology in modern society, I don't think our work would have been possible without out some of these soft/hardwares and it definitely wouldn't have been as good without others. And all of this was crucial in meeting the expectations of our audience and the conventions of the indie genre.
